Located in the heart of LA Live, downtown LA’s newest entertainment district, STAPLES Center is home to four professional sports teams and host of hundreds of world-class touring acts. Having been built over 10 years ago, AEG needed to modernize the arena to meet the high standards that its patrons have come to expect in the entertainment district. AEG hired ICON Venue Group to oversee a $7 million renovation of premium spaces as well as a $9 million upgrade to its scoreboard and video production facilities. The renovation to premium spaces included updates to the clubs, Suite Level Concourse and Bars, VIP Entries, event level star and dressing rooms, the LA Kings’ locker room, and merchandising. Some of the more noted renovated spaces include the Lexus Club, San Manuel Club, and the Budweiser Lounge. The scoreboard renovation included the replacement of the center hung scoreboard state-of-the-art HD LED technology and the replacement of the video production equipment to provide full capabilities and cutting edge show control systems. Given STAPLES Center’s heavy entertainment schedule, the ICON team had to be very diligent about planning and scheduling construction work.
