Description: Feasibility Study on FC Barcelona Venues Client: FC Barcelona (FCB)
Architect:Blanch & Conca Arquitectura, MILLET/BIOSCA I ASSOCIATS, SLPStatus: Phases 1, 1.5 & 2 (completed)
In September 2012, ICON Venue Group joined forces with AEG Facilities and ISG to prepare a detailed research report evaluating alternative options and recommendations concerning the development of Futbol Club Barcelona’s (FCB’s) future sports venues. As part of this initial study, ICON evaluated FCB’s existing venues Camp Nou and Palau Blaugrana and explored several new stadium options. For each proposed scenario, ICON identified the seating inventory, construction schedule, potential risks and indicative project costs to anticipate the practical, commercial and financial feasibility of each scenario.
Following Phase 1, ICON was commissioned in coordination with BCA & MBA to lead a much more detailed study evaluating cost implications of 1) Nou Camp Nou (ENEA), constructing a new palau and developing a mixed-use development at Les Corts and 2) constructing a new stadium, palau and mixed-use development at an alternative property by the Avenida Diagonal. This work was concluded in early December 2013 and presented to FCB’s Board of Directors on December 9th. On January 20th, FCB’s Board of Directors voted unanimously for the ENEA project, which will be the subject of a member’s referendum vote in early April 2014.
