BBVA Compass Stadium Earns LEED® Silver Certification from U.S. Green Building Council

BBVA Compass Stadium, an AEG Facility, has been awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Houston’s newest downtown stadium, the home of the 2012 Eastern Conference Champions, Houston Dynamo as well as Texas Southern University football, has been identified as a pioneering example of new construction and sustainable design and is considered a leader in transforming the building industry.
... “From the efforts of the Harris County Houston Sports Authority and AEG to identify a sustainable site for the building, to the innovative design by Populous and the construction materials and techniques of Manhattan Construction Company and ICON Venue Group, this has been a focused goal every step of the way. JELD-WEN Field Named 2012 Facility of Merit Winner

JELD-WEN Field, a state-of-the-art MLS stadium for the Portland Timbers, was selected by a panel of sports and recreation facility judges as a winner of the Athletic Business® Facility of Merit™ awards. Completed in 2011, the renovation of the 1930s-era stadium consisted primarily of a new 3500-seat outfield infill to adjust the venue’s configuration from baseball to soccer. Construction also included a dynamic cantilevered steel canopy clad in cedar replaced the smaller original roof.
Judges were big fans of the renovation and adaptive reuse. “The fact that they rescued this old urban stadium was wonderful as a basic conservation move,” said one judge. The awards will be presented to the facility owners and architects at the Athletic Business Conference & Expo in New Orleans on Friday, Nov. 30.

CSU football stadium set for conditional go-ahead from school president

Late last year, Colorado State athletic director Paul Kowalczyk approached a former Rams quarterback, retired Boulder businessman Jack Graham, seeking a donation to renovate the Sports Hall of Fame room at the Fort Collins school's Moby Arena.
…On Monday, Frank will issue an announcement recommending to the CSU system's board of governors a conditional green-lighting of the controversial on-campus stadium project.
…Two consulting firms — Conventions, Sports, and Leisure International and ICON Venue Group — combined on a joint report that estimated a new stadium's annual revenue streams at $7.6 million to $13 million.

$123 million project aims to draw 500,000 new visitors downtown annually - Sabres' plan wins Webster Block

The Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday came out the winner of an intense development competition and pledged to add energy to the city's waterfront. "Because this is our front door, we will do our best to make sure it's a world-class destination," said Sabres President Ted Black during a news conference in the office of Mayor Byron W. Brown.
…Administration officials also seemed impressed with the development team the Sabres had assembled, which includes Mortenson Construction, ICON Venue Group, and Populous, an internationally known architect of major sports venues.

Committee says on-campus stadium feasible; if approved, could open by 2015 - University president plans to render final decision before Oct. 4

Colorado State University could open a stadium on campus three years from this month, according to committee findings delivered to President Tony Frank. Frank will decide whether to move forward with construction of a football stadium off Lake Street on the south side of campus. He plans to do so in “advance” of the Oct. 4-5 meeting of the CSU system Board of Governors.
…Also included in a report by consulting firm, ICON Venue Group, was potential financing of $167 million to $270 million.

New 3D Architectural Fly-Thru and Renderings Released for Farmers Field, Event Center, and Los Angeles Convention Center Modernization During International Venue Conference

A newly created 3D Architectural “Fly-Thru” including animations of Farmers Field and Event Center, a redeveloped Gilbert Lindsay Plaza, new adjacent parking structures and a modernized Los Angeles Convention Center (including some interiors) was released today by architects and developers associated with the project. The “premiere” of the fly-thru video took place during a roundtable panel presentation taking place as part of the opening session of the international Stadia Design & Technology EXPO 2012 conference held at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Jeld-Wen Field captures architectural award

Jeld-Wen Field’s redesign has won kudos from the architecture industry. The home of the Portland Timbers captured the American Institute of Architects’ San Francisco chapter’s “Merit Award for Excellence in Architecture.” The Timbers announced the award Wednesday afternoon.
…Los Angeles-based AECOM (NYSE: ACM) served as the project’s primary architect while Greenwood Village, Colo.-based ICON Venue Group was the project manager. Turner Construction of New York was the general contractor.

ICON Venue Group to Help Assess Stadium Feasibility and Conduct Additional Public Engagement

Colorado State University announced today that ICON Venue Group has been retained as a consultant to help study the feasibility of an on-campus stadium at the university and to coordinate additional public engagement opportunities.
…“ICON has deep experience overseeing complex stadium projects, including landmark venues in Colorado, and their input and counsel will be invaluable as we examine whether to move ahead with a new stadium at Colorado State,” said Amy Parsons, vice president for University Operations and co-chair of CSU’s Stadium Advisory Committee. “Most importantly, as we begin to focus on selection and analysis of potential sites, they’ll work closely with the committee to ensure that we continue to have a robust public engagement strategy that captures all the issues and opportunities associated with the potential project.”

Sacramento officials unveil new details on proposed arena deal

Sacramento officials released a raft of new details on the proposed $391 million downtown arena Thursday, including a VIP parking garage and special $1 ticket surcharge.
After hours of delay, the city produced the all-important "term sheet" spelling out the financing structure agreed to by city officials, the Sacramento Kings, arena operator Anschutz Entertainment Group and the ICON/Taylor development team. The document was released three days after the parties announced a historic handshake deal to keep the Kings in town.

ICON Selected as Project Manager for Proposed Downtown Arena
